Congratulations to our most recent winners of the WRER Beautiful Yard Award! Marilyn and Keven Allen, at 20370 Colt, have held the award for July, and Jennifer and Mark Kendall, at 20337 Colt, will have the award in August. That makes five award winners on Colt, so far. Let's go Appaloosa, Bronco, and Palomino! Let's see if you can bring the award back to your street!

There will soon be a combination lock on the gate into the parking lot by the equestrian area. Anyone using this area will need to purchase (for $5) a parking sticker, and get the combination for the lock. Jo-Ann Greenstein will be availible for registration on Tuesday, August 10, from 5:00PM to 6:30PM. and at the next board of directors meeting on Tuesday, September 14.

It's once again time to catch up on some happenings in WRER.

First, we offer late congratulations to the recent winners of the WRER Beautiful Yard Award: Karen and Gary Howatt of 20314 Bronco, winners for the month of April; Mercedes and Rocky Burkholder of 20207 Bronco, winners for the month of May; and Rachel and Harris Scott of 20379 Appaloosa, winners for the month of June. Thank you to these folks for inspiring the rest of us to keep our homes beautiful.

More than 30 of our neighborhood children shared the excitement of our annual Easter Parade and Egg Hunt in April. The winners of the "Decorated Wheels" contest were Jaden Pickenpaugh, Lauren Forkner, Shaden Tryon, and Mikayla Manley (Tevlin). Our Egg Hunt winners were Joshua Couchman, Lucas George, Shayden Tryon, Price Johnson, Elena Villegas, Makena Thompson (Dropping), Jonathan Villegas, Brandon Sterkel, and Lauren Forkner. Thank you to our Easter Bunny (Jerry Lissner), to event host Carol Kelly, and to all who helped.

Great food and music were once again the order of the evening at our annual Cinco de Mayo Party. More than 100 people (including 25 WRER families) shared their favorite dishes and enjoyed the music of S.T.A.R.R. The Salsa Contest winners were Neva Leatherman for best, Melani Caron for hottest, and band member Bruce (for the third consecutive year!) for most unusual. Thank you to all who attended and helped, and to event host Neva Leatherman.

Here are some more "catching-up" thank you's and notes. Thank you to George Kelly for making the delicious corned beef for our "Luck o' the Irish" Poker Night. The sandwiches were great and everyone had a fun time playing cards and chatting. The big winners for the night were Shirley Browning, Lee Tryon, and Laura Golightly, niece of Pete and Mary Golightly. Thank you to the following restaurants for their donations of gift certificates used for the prizes: The Deli, on SanTan Boulevard, Dema's Italian Restaurant at the corner of Williams Field Road and Power Road, and the Queen Creek Cafe on the corner of Ocotillo and Ellsworth. Please be sure to visit these fine restaurants and thank them for their generosity.

A belated thank you to Marilyn and Keven Allen and Bob Brennan for the wonderful job they did at the Pancakes and PJ's breakfast last month. It was a chilly morning and those tasty pancakes and sausage were appreciated by all who came to get together with neighbors.

Finally, congratulations to Karen and Gary Howatt, the latest recipients of the WRER Beautiful Yard Award. You can check out the results of their efforts at 20314 Bronco. Now that spring has arrived, it's time for all of us to work toward being the next winner of this award.

We're just catching up with some "thank you's" for recent WRER events.

First, a belated thank you to Neva Leatherman for her work organizing WRER's first Neighborhood Yard Sale back in November. This was a great success with lots of customers coming through the neighborhood to buy our unwanted "treasures."

Next, thank you to Jane Hendricks and Patti Dropping for organizing this year's annual Progressive Dinner. More than 60 people came out to travel from house to house enjoying great food and friendship. Thank you also to Janet and Bill Cooper, Jan and Steve Piper, and Mary and Dean Kabanuk who served as hosts, and to all who helped prepare the delicious treats.
