We're just catching up with some "thank you's" for recent WRER events.
First, a belated thank you to Neva Leatherman for her work organizing WRER's first Neighborhood Yard Sale back in November. This was a great success with lots of customers coming through the neighborhood to buy our unwanted "treasures."
Next, thank you to Jane Hendricks and Patti Dropping for organizing this year's annual Progressive Dinner. More than 60 people came out to travel from house to house enjoying great food and friendship. Thank you also to Janet and Bill Cooper, Jan and Steve Piper, and Mary and Dean Kabanuk who served as hosts, and to all who helped prepare the delicious treats.

Congratulations to Rod and Nancy Trautvetter, the latest recipients of the WRER Beautiful Yard Award. You can see their lovely landscaping if you stroll or drive all the way to the end of Palomino, in front of the big white house.

Many thanks go to Mary Golightly for chairing the Neighborhood Barbeque on Saturday. It was great to see some new faces from the neighborhood, and everyone had a wonderful time. This year's Chili Champs were: Eric Hamilton - Hottest (this was a unanimous vote, as Eric's chili set everyone's mouth on fire!); Geri Couchman - Most Unusual; and Marilyn Allen - Best (this is the fourth year that an Allen family member has been a chili champ). Watch for news about G.A.I.N. Night, coming on October 24!

Splish, splash, there was fun had by all at the "Family Playday" on Saturday! Little Shayden Tryon was the first of more than 65 people, most of whom were wet kids, who enjoyed slipping down the water slide at the clubhouse. We wound up with a little mud, but maybe that was the most fun part! Thank you to all who helped serve the hot dogs, snacks, and drinks, and to all who helped set up and clean up.

Congratulations to our second winners of the "WRER Beautiful Yard Award," Patti and Per Dropping, at 20325 East Colt Drive. Despite the fact that their yard is probably the biggest front yard in our neighborhood, it always looks well-manicured and attractive. We hope this inspires you to spruce up your landscaping to make it "award worthy" for next month.

Congratulations to Susan and Dave Coleman, at 20346 Colt Drive, the first recipients of the "WRER Beautiful Yard Award." This award will be given each month to a homeowner who has demonstrated the pride of ownership in their home and community, by maintaining attractive landscaping. Look for the sign in the Colemans' yard. Will you be the award winner next month?

The Cinco de Mayo Party was "muy bueno" ! There were about 80 people enjoying good food and GREAT music. This year's Salsa Contest winners were band member Bruce (for the second year!), Janet Pickenpaugh, and Pete Van Tiem. Thank you to Ron and Sharon Turrell for the wonderful carne asada which they generously provided, and thank you to Mary Golightly, Dawn Oliphant, Marilyn Allen, and the Hundreiser family for all of their help setting up, decorating, and cleaning up. We couldn't have done it without you.
The Social Committee will be taking a vacation until August, when you should watch for our annual Family Play Day. We hope to see you then!

Thank you to Patti Dropping for putting together our first (and hopefully not our last) WRER Doggie Day on March 14. It was a great success with 14 of our costume-clad pooches marching through our streets, and entertaining and informative demonstrations of canine agility training. And thanks to the generous Silent Auction gifts from The Deli (18914 San Tan Boulevard). Dawn Oliphant, Sabrina Palomarez, Joan Vidmich, Lea Spall and Patti Dropping, $321 was raised for Canine Companions for Independence, an organization which provides service dogs for people with disabilities. Thank you also to Sandee and Jerry Lissner and Karen Howatt for their help with set up, clean up, and serving refreshments.

In spite of the rain, our annual Easter Parade and Egg Hunt proved to be a success, with almost 20 little "rainy day ducklings" coming out to enjoy an amended morning of fun. While there was no parade, we did have a visit from the Easter Bunny (thanks to Jerry Lissner) and an indoor egg hunt with the following winners: Michael Newman, John Hundreiser, Marin Hadley, Stella Hundreiser, Madelyn Allen, Dean Scott, and Jet Leatherman. Thank you to Kim Johnson and Christine McKinney for making cupcakes, and to Mary Golightly, Neva Leatherman, Cathy Hundreiser, and Marilyn and Keven Allen for their help.

Thank you to all who made our "Pancakes and PJ's" another great success. Our premier chefs Keven Allen and Rudy Villegas made those pancakes almost float off the griddles! Almost 60 neighbors had the chance to enjoy a delicious breakfast and chat over an extra cup of coffee. And it was fun to see some folks in their PJ's. Special thanks go to our chefs, to event host Marilyn Allen and to our helpful neighbors Sandee Lissner, Patti Dropping, Mary Golightly, and Christine McKinney.

Thank you to Miriam Weible for chairing and organizing another wonderful Progressive Dinner on December 27. Here is her report:
Full of laughter, new friends and neighbors, and good conversation, the Progressive Dinner was another WRER fun event.
Rick and Dawn Oliphant and her sister Diana, assisted by Patsy Barlett and our brand new neighbors, John and Janet Shields, started us out with drinks and tasty appetizers.
Next door, we were greeted by Jerry and Sandee Lissner, assisted by Geri Couchman and Janet Cooper, who had three great homemade soups waiting for us to enjoy.
Salads were hosted by Pete and Mary Golightly, who had help from their daughters Christina and Jessica. They used some very different and delicious recipes.
The main courses were fantastic this year. Thank you Jan and Steve Piper f or hosting four very delectable dishes, including Beef Stroganoff and Eggplant Parmesan. They were assisted by Peggy Fritz, Jane Hendrics, and Joan Vidmich, who are all wonderful cooks.
Desserts were graciously handled by Mike and Harriet Georgopapadakos who stepped in at the last minute for us. Harriet’s helpers were many and I think this was a record number of amazing desserts. Thanks to Janet Shields, Geri Couchman, Karen McCoy, Laura Jasper, Sandee Lissner, and of course Harriett.
There had to be a few more elfves who also brought things and we thank you all so very much for a really lovely evening! Thanks also to Melanie Caron for taking pictures all evening of our 7th Progressive Dinner at WRER.
For those who may not know this, the idea for the dinner came to life on a ride in Box Canyon. As we rode through the beautiful desert we thought about how much fun it would be to enjoy each other’s beautifully decorated homes over the Christmas season, and decided it would be a wonderful annual event.
